Sunday Scriptures
On hearing it, many of his disciples said, "This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?"
Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, "Does
this offend you? What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before!
The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken
to you are spirit and they are life. Yet there are some of you who do not believe."
For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who
would betray him. He went on to say, "This is why I told you that no one can
come to me unless the Father has enabled him."
From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.
"You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus asked the Twelve.
Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of
eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God."
Then Jesus replied, "Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a
devil!" (He meant Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, who, though one of the
Twelve, was later to betray him.)
John 6:60-71
Then Jesus cried out, "When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me
only, but in the one who sent me. When he looks at me, he sees the one who
sent me. I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes
in me should stay in darkness.
"As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him.
For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. There is a judge for the
one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke
will condemn him at the last day. For I did not speak of my own accord, but the
Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. I know that his
command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has
told me to say."
John 12:44-50
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven,
but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to
me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name
drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly,
'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
Matthew 7:21-23
