Game One…Loss…3-18
Game Two…Win…20-12
Goooood Morning Sport Fans…..
alk about a turn around in fortune. Our Trinity Warriors went from the agony
of defeat to the thrill of victory from game one to game two.
What brought back the sweating Warriors from a crushing defeat in the first game?
Perhaps it was the inspiring open devotion led by Mike, “Roughie,” Duffy, who
also played with inspiration and tenacity, or maybe it was from the boos from
the bleachers after the loss. Naaa…more likely, it came from the inner most
resources of their being that brought out the warriors spirit in each of our
players. That cry that said, “ we will not be defeated…we will triumph against
all odds…we are Victors!!! (Or, maybe the other team couldn’t take the heat
and humidity as well as we could…Go figure.)
Our rusty old timer, Jack, “Iron Man,” Sheets made quite an impression. Yep,
there was a big ole impression in the pitchers mound where he laid down to
rest between pitches. All that extra rest helped him to pitch a pretty fair game.
Jack’s baby girl, Jeni, “Lighting,” Harrison was a master at home plate, as
usual. However, her temper was faster than her feet on that hot and sweltering
night. Lighting and humidity can have dampening effect on speed, can’t it girl?
“Missile,” Mike Harrison, was back playing like day one again. His bat lit up
the sky with home runs and tons of RBI’s. I also see that he has perfected
the “Sweat Ball” pitch that was handed down to him from his pappy-n-law.
The spray off the ball, when it was hit, helped to cool off the umpire.
Now, that’s being community minded.
Mr. turn and burn, Jack, “Flash,” Haga came off the bench to play again. A
little rusty with the bat, but the blitzing feet still seem to have some
smoke in them.
Also, back with a laugh and a smile was our “Down Town Girl,” Faye Reel.
Miss chatter was slower than usual, with her feet.” The heat may have
slowed her feet, but it couldn’t slow her…say what? Okay, I will let it lie
there. Good job girl!
Oh man…when “Raging,” Ray Williams hits a ball it flies like a rocket, but
when he misses, it fans the air so strong that it can blow the hats off all
those in the dug-out. Course, when this does happen on a hot and blistering
night, the bench sitters are very grateful. Mucha gracias, señor.
The Duffy’s are a formidable team. Ole Roughie’s bride, Gillian, Toughie,”
Duffy did a great job on second. Her nick name really fits this remarkable
warrior. Hey, and she can cook too!
Most all our players did a great job out there, but there were a few who
owned the night. One was James, “Teddy Bear,” Sebree. Mr. Velcro was
outstanding with his diving, sliding, jumping, and acrobatic catches in
out field as was “Smoking,” Ron Girard who played a stellar game in the
field and at bat, also.
The “Mean Lean Bean,” Stueber covers more ground in two steps that most
with five strides. The Bean was super at third and did a great job with
the stick. Way to go Mean Bean.
Mrs. “Ouch,” Angie Sebree put aside her fear and dinged a few balls just
far enough to get on first a few times. In doing so, she was responsible
for several RBI’s. Now that’s something to roar about!
Alex, “Too Tall,” Best plays with such passion and exuberance. He is fun
to watch, especially at bat. He too, like Raging Ray, can cool off the
dugout with his mighty swings. When he does connect…look out, this fireball
is going to roll!
Playing with ever excelling skills is our own “Bad Boy,” John Bovender.
John is Mr. Dependable every game. Not much gets past him on third and
his batting is one of the most consistent out there. Mr. All Around fits
this dynamo. Yea John!
Poetry in motion. That be our Linda, “Rain,” Showers. This beauty is a
can do gal. She can hit, run, catch, and generally out finesse the
opponents in all matters of the game. Linda tends to beat up on herself
when she has a brief moment of being off, but that is a mark of a true
champion who wants to win. You are a winner, Ms. Rain!
Hay, speaking of a winner…how ‘bout our most gorgeous former Marine,
Elizabeth, “Stretch,” Waller? Here is another one who plays all out. I pity
the enemy she was trained to destroy. Liz is getting better every game and her
spirit rubs off on all of us.
“Hooo-Whaa,” Jack Waller, our active duty Marine was fantastic out there.
His speed, in field and running the bases, has put ole Jumping Jack Flash
in retirement. Mr. Blitzkrieg just overwhelms our opponents with his strength
and agility.
It seems strange that we could do so poorly in the first game and come back
so strong in the last game. Seems like we either get off to a bad start and
can’t seem to recover or we start good and have one ending of mistake after
mistake. Rarely do we lose because the other team beats us; we lose, most of
the time, because we beat ourselves. The fact that we never have the time
to practice and work out our mistakes is a big factor, but the biggest factor
is that winning is secondary to us. We play for the fun and fellowship. The
camaraderie means more than the final score. Make no mistake, we intend to
win every time we take the field, but the joy comes from being together and
representing our Lord. Our witness to the other teams and the fans is the
main thing. Christians can and do have fun in decent activities.
Well, time to take my smart pill and water the garden. Go and do likewise.
Till next time, I remain, yours truly, 911, Reserve Extraordinary,
Lucian Thompson
